What's in RedBox this Week: Carrie

About the Film: Directed by Kimberly Peirce and starring Chloe Grace Moretz ( Kick ass ), Julianne

Moore, and Gabriella Wilde ( The Three Musketeers ). This is an obvious remake of the Stephen King Film

starring Sissy Spacek. The story follows A young girl captive in her mothers overly religious induced world

as she learns she has special abilities which could be a blessing or a curse. In this film adaptation Carrie is

flipped to be seen as a typical young woman who faces peer pressure and rebels against her religious

mother playing less of a victim to society and more of a rebellious teenager willing to make the changes to fit

in today's society. Her power strengthens throughout the film as steers further and further away from her

mother's grasp.

Carrie is in RedBox and on DVD now.

What's in Redbox This Week?

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

About the Film: Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is written and directed by Christopher Landon

and

shows a different view point of the Paranormal series. It stars Andrew Jacobs and brings back in a cameo

Katie Featherston ( Paranormal Activity ). The story focuses on a group of Hispanic neighbors and a

rumored witch. The evil presence of the series has now marked one of the young boys and continues to do

its evil bidding. The story maybe focus on all new characters but somehow intertwines with the rest of the

series in a smart way.

The Marked Ones is now on DVD and in Redbox currently.

Oculus

About the Film: Oculus is a horror/ supernatural film directed by Mike Flanagan. It stars Karen Gillan,

Brenton Thwaites and one of my favorite scream queens Katee Sackhoff ( Halloween: Resurrection ). The

main plot centers around a woman who is trying to exonerate her brother of murder trying to prove the

crime

was committed by a supernatural force. It is believed a family mirror holds an evil entity and this entity plays

tricks on the characters and audience as to what is reality and what is not. They always say "Seeing is

believing" or is it?

Oculus is in theaters now as of April 11, 2014

IMDB: 7.1 user rating

Tomatometer: 72% Liked

Audience: 55% Liked

My Opinion: I've seen the previews not the film. Based on what I have seen the film comes across as

cliche` and tired but reviews are telling me to give it a shot.

Theater/ Rentable/ Trash: My heart tells me this is a rentable flick not something to spend 9 bucks on.

Though it isn't trash it doesn't seem like a theater gem like "Insidious". Although I wouldn't be upset to watch this one in theaters with friends.
